When I first started adding my movie collection the server would download the metadata and put up a valid poster for the movie. But after I got about 10% in to adding movies it stopped selecting a poster and it selected some crappy low res picture. It still does this to this day. Now I know all I have to do is go in and edit the entry and select a valid poster but I was just wondering why it stopped.
Sometimes as its downloading the metadata an interim poster will display and it is a valid poster for the movie but when it’s finished downloading the metadata, it puts up the crappy pic.

FileBot (links in my signature) can handle naming and structuring instantly.
in case you happen to be using MP4/M4V files…:
Plex will read bogus and embedded Title Fields within MP4/M4V and prefer them over a perfect file name/structure, but you can combat that situation by moving Local Media Assets to the bottom of every agent list you can find. All tabs in TV Shows and Movies here: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200241558-Agents
Just drag LMA to the bottom of the list and drop it. If you do have embedded metadata this will cure the issue, if you don’t it won’t matter. LMA will do what it has to from the bottom.
Renaming/restructuring is best performed OUTSIDE the library and you may need to write a new bundle for the show or movie so The Plex Dance® was invented:
