Has this anything to do with the fact now I have updated my password , Plex can’t connect to my library now???!! AGHHH!
You probably need to claim your server. When you change your password on of the devices it signed out so it resets tokens is your server
Can you provide more information on how this works? I followed a suggestion in a support thread about getting a claim code and adding it to the URL but that didn’t work. Also, can we get more information on why changing a password causes a server to become unclaimed? This has never happened to me before, and I have changed my password. Did a process change, or is there a procedure I was supposed to follow that the security email didn’t detail?
This is normal if you tick the checkbox “Sign out connected devices after password change”.
You must have previously changed your pw without ticking the checkbox.
The instructions on claiming the server differ depending on the server platform.
The basic method is laid out here https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/
I mean, yes, I changed it about a year ago or so without ticking the checkbox, would that have caused the whole thing to have collapsed when I had it checked today?
No.
Nothing collapsed. This time you had the checkbox ticked, as was instructed and was necessary.
The result is that you’ll now have to reclaim your server.
Running Mac OS - sorted it out by logging in from the Plex icon in my menu bar clicked on the Plex icon and clicked open Plex and it logged in that way and it was back to normal - all my libraries were there and it connected to my server no issues ….
Although I will not find new friends by writing this:
you folks @plex first raised the prices like idiots, then had been hacked like amateurs and finally your solution after that breaks a least a lot of installations around the world.
Looks not that good for you at the moment.
How about switching to jellyfin as many users do.
plex seems to go down with high speed at the moment…
I am one of many Plex users experiencing this problem since doing the required password reset. Sadly, like many others in these forums, none of the proposed fixes are working to reconnect my Plex (on MacOS) to my NAS server. (I keep getting the “unable to connect securely” screen.) For those of us who have very basic technical skills, it is frustrating that Plex cannot offer a simple, easy-to-follow instructions to remedy this problem.
I am having the same issue, reset password and existing port forward stopped working. I have tried al the suggested fixes with no success. Using Unifi with Frontier fiber, my own equipment.
Thanks for the reminder about jellyfin. Why would anyone waste their time with Plex at this point?
Same problem, on both iOS and macOS.
The article doesn’t include details about resolving claims. Never configured a claim. Link irrelevant.
Here is the claim process:
- Visit http://:32400/web
- Configure pinned Home libraries
- Ignore all the construction warning signs. Navigate to Plex server settings.
- Select the Claim button.
- Watch the page reload. Watch the button present a loading spinner.
- Relaunch Plex client apps.
i’m not sure what article you are referring to. not sure what you mean that you never configured it.
Mother having the same problem. Got the email from Plex saying they were hacked, so went ahead and changed the password (no idea if she did or didn’t check on the Sign Out Of Devices option).
Spent an hour with her trying to resolve this issue. Plex server on her Windows 11 PC is working fine, can connect and display everything normally
Plex on Roku stick works fine, displays everything
Plex on Firestick, does not display any of her libraries (movies & TV shows). Have tried Sign Out/In, Clear Cache/Date, Deleted and reinstalled Plex app, rebooted Firestick numerous times. After SignIn, put in the 4 digit Link code, it says it’s connected, it then asks about the customization of the home screen, but her local libraries are not there.
Even if you go on the home screen to the MORE option, and select her local server (which is does display), when you try to drop the list down showing the libraries you can add, there is NOTHING THERE, no libraries.
I have been searching the web for an hour now looking for all possible options. It works everywhere but the Firestick app now, so I don’t think it’s server related.
I wish she never touched anything, Plex did a terrible job sending out these emails telling people they MUST reset their passwords, especially to non-tech people, when your system messes up like this.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to get the Plex on Firestick to show my local libraries again, like it did yesterday?
Thank you
my server just disappears from view. I tried to clear the values in my preferences file, signed out and restarted (unraid). I also cleared my plex_claim variable in docker as well, nothing. Server just wont show. I know this is a claim process issue (it happened the last time it was hacked) but i can’t get the claim token button to appear because my server disappears under settings.
I have a main passworded account, this works. But my general use account can’t see server, neither can my son at a remote location. How can these accounts ‘claim’ the server when it’s already claimed by my primary account?
What version is your Plex server on? May need to be updated. Plex Media Server - Security Update - #3 by PlexInfo
But NO INVITED USER CAN GET IN, including my own managed account and a newly created managed account.
You need to update your server to at least 1.42.2.10122 . It is a separate issue, More info about that here. Plex Media Server - Security Update - #3 by PlexInfo
My server had been updated, I checked versions on the file.
plex (web and app), were not showing the newer version, but said it was up to date with ‘check for updates’ greyed out.
I had to download manually turn off the server, and overwrite the existing correct version with the new correct version.
This was either a freak problem on my mac, or a bug in the server software.
Things are mostly ok, but the Roku menus are completely messed up and need to be rebuilt from scratch.
