I’ve set up the server on my PC. I’ve downloaded the app to my iPad. When I try to connect it won’t connect locally. The PC is hardwired into the router and the iPad is on wifi on the same router.
It has now connected Indirectly, which is NOT what I want since it reduces the playback quality. How do I fix this? I can’t seem to even get it to try to connect locally anymore. So frustrating. All the instructions I can find just talk about how to connect remotely, not how to connect locally. It sounds like locally should be the default/easy way to connect and remote should be more challenging, but it seems to be the other way around for me.
Oh I forgot to mention… when I actually look at the Server’s configuration for Remote Access it tells me that it is “Not available outside your network”. So I’m not even sure how anything is connecting “indirectly” it is supposedly isn’t available.
So the Plex Server is direct connected to the router, and the iPad is wifi connected to the same router.
I’m getting “Direct connection unavailable” when it tries to connect. When I press-hold on the connection it lets me connect and says “Remote” which then quickly changes to “Indirect”.
So, yes it connects indirectly even when the iPad is on my home network.
This is the first time I’m setting up and using this Plex server, so no it has never worked for me yet.
I just tried the solution you linked to. I closed the app on the iPad after refreshing the browser on the server to make sure it all took. And I got a “Couldn’t connect to server” with a “Hint Tap here to select another server” button.
I pressed-and-hold the server and it is again connected Indirectly.
So I’m pretty sure I have a Doubel-NAT issue that prevents “remote”… but at this point I’m not really worried about that, as I still just want to get a local/direct connection.
I found a way to specify the IP address and Port directly and used the values that were listed in the Plex server settings, and am getting a
"Unable to add connection
A Connection to a server couldn’t be established using the details you provided. Error code -1001
Is it possible that the network connection in your PC is classified as ‘public’?
It needs to be ‘private’, otherwise all ports get closed by the Windows Firewall.
So we connected the PC with the plex server to the main Router instead of the secondary router and that seemed to solve all the issues. Thanks for your help.
