Can't differentiate 2 different servers

Server Version#: 1.22.3.4523

Recently migrated my server to an M1 Mac Mini from a 2006 Mac Pro. All music/tv/movie storage is on a custom-built Unraid server.

Decided to try out Arcade but got nowhere, then did some reading to find that it just doesn’t seem to function on the M1 chip Macs yet. So, the most obvious solution to me was to do a fresh Plex install on the old Mac Pro and just have Arcade running off of that since it’s at least supported.

The issue is that my account (Plex Pass) will only register one at a time. I’ve adjusted port mapping both on the router and both servers so there should be no overlap, but I can only access whichever PMS was most recently turned on.

Steps I’ve taken:

  • uninstalling/reinstalling PMS while making sure I’m signed out multiple times

  • Deleting the preferences .plist file

  • Multiple attempts to unclaim/reclaim, each time failing since unclaiming the Mac Pro also unclaims the Mac Mini.

My best guess is there is some file somewhere that is registering both as the same server, but I don’t know where else to look to resolve this.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you copied/cloned your original server when doing your original migration. This will leave both machines with the same identifiers. Stop that server and try manually deleting those identifiers.

Preferably create a backup of the actual file in case you get things mixed up.

~/Library/Preferences/com.plexapp.plexmediaserver.plist

I’m not 100% sure if you need to delete all entries but those should be the ones in question:

  • AnonymousMachineIdentifier
  • MachineIdentifier
  • ProcessedMachineIdentifier

To delete each property, best use the following command in your Mac’s terminal:

defaults delete com.plexapp.plexmediaserver <key>

Where <key> is one of the 3 property keys listed above.

That did the trick, thank you!
