Cant download or share photos with plex for android

Since the last update of the server, I am not allowed to download or share photos with my android phones. I can see all my photos and I am able to download music. The problem is only with my photos.

A solution would be appreciated.

What do you mean by “not allowed”? Are you getting an error?

`Save image failed. And when I try to share it with socials the picture is blank (black)

I tried on multiple devices to be sure.

Do you have an upload limit on your server? There is an old bug where having that set will cause photos to fail to download or download with 0 bytes.

I found that article with that issue. But as far as I can see everything is on maximum and I have no restrictions on volume and speed. The problem with sharing photos on social media has been solved after a reinstall of the Plex software and reboot of the phone. Just downloading photos to my phones still won’t work.

Ok, can you try downloading a photo and then grab the android logs for me.

Got the log. It does show you accepting the permissions prompt. However:

07-06 15:30:16.092 e: An exception occurred: java.io.IOException: Unable to create directory /storage/emulated/0/Pictures/Plex

I’m not sure why this is happening, will need to check with the team.

I’m having exactly the same issue :frowning:

Cannot save any image from latest Plex android app.

I can delete the Plex folder from Pictures folder, it will be created again once I try to save image.

But image does not appear in that folder and an error “Save image failed” is shown.

Device: Samsung S21, Android 11.

Could it be possibly related to some new permission implementation on Android 11?

  • Photos: saving a photo to the device would produce an error.

Hi there, MovieFan. I tested this for you on my phone since I had the same issue. Still won’t allow you to download. I think storage permission might be the problem with version 8.18 and up… The storage permissions in v8.24.0 only has “Photos and media only” access, unlike v8.17.1 which has the “All files” storage permission.

Can you reproduce and provide me logs? Its working on my Samsung S20, saving to the default downloads folder on internal storage.

Well, I made a mistake… I updated to 8.24.0.28408, and I’m back to not having the ability to download or save photos.
