Can't get Dolby Digital to work

Just set up a new ATV 3, have enabled Enable Dolby Digital during AirPlay on the PMS and set the ATV settings to Dolby Digital to ON.

 

However, whenever playing any 1080p DTS 5.1 movies they are coming out as Stereo.

 

Any ideas?

  • Your ATV model (2 or 3) and firmware version (found under the ATV settings > general > about > Apple TV software):

    5.3 (6105)

  • The DNS server set on the ATV (found under the ATV settings > general > network > DNS):

    192.168.0.17

  • The device and operating system (including version number) that PlexConnect is installed on:

    Mac Mini OS X 10.8.3

  • The local IP address of the device that PlexConnect is installed on:

    192.168.0.17

  • The device and operating system (including version number) that the Plex media server (PMS) is installed on:

    Mac Mini OS X 10.8.3

  • The Plex media server (PMS) version number you are running (**do not put 'latest'**):

    0.9.7.28.33

  • The local IP address of the device that the Plex media server (PMS) is installed on:

    192.168.0.17

  • The PlexConnect version number. If using Github source then a time and date of download (look at the creation date of the folder) and if you are using any testing branch e.g. the Elan/PlexInc one.

First suspect I would look at is...are your movies encoded with AC3 5.1 audio.  Simply having movies which are encoded with 5.1 or DTS is not enough for ATV.  They should be h,264 and AC3 audio encoded.  IF your movies are that let me know we will move on to the next thought.

Wait, it looks like you are on a version of the PlexConnect code which acidentially turned off 5.1  Go to GitHub and get the latest code.  This was fixed last week and there are number of great enhancements to boot.
