Can't get plex to record certain episodes of olympics

I have the same issue with all of my scheduled recordings after the first one finishes disappearing. I moved the Olympics folder out of the library into a backup folder, and the remaining scheduled episodes for the day re-appeared, and the currently showing episode automatically started recording. So yes, Plex thinks that all the episodes for the same day are identical. Must be missing some metadata it needs.

exhibit A. And I don’t have any previous Olympics recordings to delete or move.

I too an experiencing similar issues recording the Olympics. Running the latest version off the Beta channel and have set the Olympics to record into their own folder. I have only had the very first episode work. Nothing has worked since. The ā€œepisodesā€ with either not record (even though they are indicated they will in the recording schedule) or record but are not viewable ā€œThere was a transcoder errorā€ or they just don’t show up anywhere. I have the recordings set to very low restrictions like so many have done. Other shows I have set to record still seem to record just fine. I’ve had to sign up for Sling in order for my wife and I to be able to watch the Olympics.

Same problem here. Plex only records the first show of the day. Moving the completed shows out of the folder triggered it to start up the recording. But this is not an acceptable workaround. We need a quick answer from Plex on how to fix this. Maybe if we hit their Twitter with this issue they will notice. They are touting recording Olympics with a free 30day pass.

I guess Plex does not want us to DVR the Olympics, but i can DVR the crap out of the news. I wonder if this was in the fine print of recording (cannot record Olympics).

I have read in the Plex support articles that date based TV shows have the file structure:

TV Shows/ShowName/Season XX/ShowName – YYYY-MM-DD.ext

Also supported is the following:

TV Shows/ShowName/Season XX/ShowName – YYYY-MM-DD - Optional Text.ext

But my TV files are being created with this format:

TV Shows/ShowName/Season XX/ShowName – YYYY-MM-DD - 00 00 00 - Optional Text.ext

Does anyone know if the section 00 00 00 is time, and why it always the same 00 00 00. This sort of data is needed for multiple TV shows on the same day.

Interesting, my previous three recordings followed that format, then after switching to the offical plex docker it looks like it is recording with the time format. However, as long as the file name is different, it should still be a valid recording.

I’ll have to see after the 9PM program to verify

Is their anyone from Plex monitoring these forums? I suggest people start hitting up their social media feeds to draw some attention to this issue… I know I have.

i’m going to try something on my machine…will use tvdb matching to name the olympics something completely wrong…in the past this has kept the software from identifying the episodes as already recording which seems to be the specific issue…will report tomorrow if this helps

has anybody had better luck with the HD HomeRun DVR software?

I’m getting so sick of this crap that I’m about to drop my plex account and tell them to kiss off. I spend more time trying to figure out why I can’t get the recordings to work than actually watching the fkn olympics!!

it did the SAAAAME crap to me today. I launched a live view of a recording already in session. about 4 minutes into viewing, it crapped out, the spinning wheel showed up and stayed in place for several minutes. I found the active recording file in the .grab folder, started watching it and confirmed the file ended right where the wheel started spinning on my viewing… I rebooted PMS to hopefully resolve the issue, and then all of my scheduled olympics episodes (that I’d set individually to record into separate folders each) had all disappeared, and I could do nothing to get the recording started again… I had to launch PMS on my NAS and have it start recording there. having a backup instance of PMS should not be the only way to get this software to do its job

I attempted the workaround and it seemed to actually work yesterday. After setting creating individual libraries with their own individual directories, the other recordings from yesterday worked. However, I did NOT try to watch them live while they were recording.

but today, after crashing while attempting to watch live while recording, here are all the measures I took to try to get it resolved.

I deleted all the contents of the directory the recording was assigned(to include the .grab directory) and restarted: still no reappearance of the scheduled recordings

I cut and pasted all the previous day’s recordings from the other directories into an unrelated directory, deleted all the leftover contents of those directories (to include the .grab directories), and restarted : still no reappearance of scheduled recordings

I deleted all the previously scheduled individual recordings and restarted, then attempted to start recording the curently-airing program: still could not get it to record

there was nothing I could do to get my main PMS to start recording the currently-airing program, even after removing all residue from ever having recorded anything olympics related

I went into the PMS instance on my NAS and set it to record the currently-airing program, it took right off without a hitch and completed. I can’t tell you why it would work on my NAS and not on my desktop. the only difference between the two was that I’d tried to record on my desktop. but as stated above, I did my best to thoroughly remove any association of previous attempts to record from the directories that PMS is associated with

Great, I just noticed this evenings programing is no longer showing after updating the epg…On that note:
how do you change the epg provider?

I just hit them up on twitter, so we’ll see if they respond or not.

Just got a reply back:

We’re aware that in some cases, programming with ā€œepisodesā€ multiple times a day with similar naming aren’t always all recorded. We’re currently working on a new beta release with a fix and hope to have it out soon.

Cool. At least they acknowledge the issue. That’s step 1.

interesting… the evening olympic programs just appeared. The first one is recording for the past hour…

New Plex Pass version just released addressing Olympics and other shows with multiple episodes on the same : https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/62832/plex-media-server#latest

1.11.3.4793-482972920 Released today 2/13/2018. Hope this fixes the issue. It’s been very frustrating so far missing the primetime episodes. Thank heavens I had NextPVR running as a backup.

FYI all 1.11.3.4793 specifically reports fixing (#6668) the specific problem I’m seeing. I have downloaded and installed the .deb manually and where the TV recording schedule was reliably not showing multiple Olympics broadcasts for the day after the first recording, it is now reporting multiple as I expect. Here’s hoping it actually records multiple broadcasts today.

(see bottom of https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/62832/plex-media-server/p10 for my reference)

Unfortunately the Nvidia Shield is several versions behind so the only Olympics I can record with it is the 2 hour midnight episode on NBC. Any way to get the new version on the Shield, I am signed up for the beta.

1.11.3.4.4793 appears to have corrected the issue. It’s been recording correctly for me since last night. Thanks for the quick response plex.
