I changed my user name and can’t log into my Plex Account. When I tried with the new username I got a warning that repeated attempts would lock my account, so I’m hesitant to even try the old user name.
Also, I can I change my server name. Somehow my server name got changed and I tried completely wiping everything out so I can start fresh, but when I reinstall Plex Media Player the server I thought should be gone opened even though I had received that warning with the new log in info.
Plex user name and server name are two different things.
They are completely unrelated.
If you’re having difficulty logging into your plex account, use your email address instead of your user name.
Here is the place to change your plex user name: https://plex.tv/users/edit
The server name is changed in a different place:
Web app
Settings - Server - General - Friendly name
Plex clients may need to get restarted before they “see” a changed user name or server name.
It’s changed. I don’t know why I keep having so much trouble with Plex. I did everything it says here “https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/198202/we-couldnt-locate-a-server” ans when I link to the Plex App I get “We couldn’t locate a server.” About 2 weeks ago it was working fine and in the middle of a video it stopped and said the video wasn’t available. Then when I went out to the Plex app and back it there were no libraries. Now I can’t even get that far.
This thread deals with a Roku.
I cannot tell you anything about Roku. I don’t have one.
How does the Plex Web app behave? Can you access your server with it?
It’s when I select the Plex App that I get the message that my sever can’t be located.
Here is a laundry list of stuff to try in that situation.
Do also follow the links which are set in there.
Thanks. I already did that.
I have no idea what’s going with my Plex Media Server. This morning my server still couldn’t be located. I gave up fooling around with it. I decided to try PlayOn because I just need to stream on the televisions. For some reason I decided to check Plex, and it’s working. Not nice and pretty like it used to be, but it’s working. It’ll probably be down again soon, so I’m going to keep both.
Thanks for your help.
