Can't move server data storage location

Server Version#: 1.21.1.3830
Player Version#: 8.11.0.22186

Issue: When following the procedure to move server data storage to a user accessible location, I got an infinite spinner during “please be patient, …”.

Notes:

  1. Storage location
  2. Let’s do it
  3. Select target location (<-- I never see this screen, directly skipping from step 2 to step 4)
  4. “Please be patient” (I get an infinite spinner here without the process moving forward
  • I tried to shutdown PMS and reboot the Nvidia shield, without success
  • Also tried to insert a USB device, setup as internal memory extension, hoping the procedure would this time propose a target location selection, without success
  • I ran the process several times: 2 hours first time, 3 hours later during the day, and more than 10 hours while letting it run overnight, without success

Context: a LG smart TV is assigned a generic profile by Plex, causing playback issues. I wanted to create a custom profile and noticed I need to move data storage location to access profiles folders. As mentioned above, I can’t.

If I understood correctly, data is supposed to be moved to internal\Android\data\com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb, but while the process is ongoing (infinite spinner) there is no data being copied/moved there. I only find a cache folder.

I extracted Plex application logs after enabling Network Logging, which highlights a java.io.EOFException at the beginning of the process: Plex-App-Sample-Logs.txt (43.1 KB)

I’m not sure if it’s intended because the App can’t reach the server anymore, or if there is something preventing the process from progressing further, but I hope that helps…

Did you have any luck with this? I’m going on 24 hours of waiting now and while I gather it’s amazingly slow, I can’t imagine 7.1 gigs to an external ssd should take anywhere near this long (my first move was interrupted so I have no doubt that screwed me, but I’m trying to be patient).

Any news or did you just reinstall and have to generate everything again?

I honestly didn’t find a solution by myself, so I’m waiting for a reply from Plex support team.

I had to reinstall my entire shield to get it working. I decided it would take less time than diagnosing this ridiculousness
