Can't see Sonos devices from Plex

Server / Player versions:

  • Server Version#: 1.40.0.7998
  • Android Plex Player Version#: 10.10.1.5986
  • Android Plexamp Version#: 4.9.5
  • Plex Player for Mac Version #: 1.88.1.96-c1c59fc1

Additional details:

  • Google Pixel 7 running Android 14
  • Intel MacBook Pro running macOS 14.2
  • PMS running on Docker on Ubuntu 22.04
  • (4) Sonos speakers and (1) Sonos amp
  • (4) Google Chromecast devices
  • Active PlexPass subscription

Plex, Sonos speakers/amp, laptop, and phone are all running on the same subnet. I have setup the Plex integration on the Sonos side and using the Sonos app on macOS and Android, I can play music from my Plex server. However, I can’t even see the Sonos speakers from the Plex or Plexamp apps on Android or the Plex app on Mac.

I cannot follow the instructions at Link Your Sonos Device to Your Plex Account because Plex and Plexamp for Android don’t even show the Sonos speakers as possible targets. The Google Chromecast devices are visible from both Plex and Plexamp. Strangely enough, the Chromecast targets also disappear if I switch to another app on my phone and switch back.

Both Plex in Chrome 122 on macOS and the native Plex app on macOS have completely disabled the button to connect to any other players. Spotify on both Android and macOS can see the Sonos devices without any trouble. And can stream to them as well.

What am I missing?

Plex app on Android:
plex-devices

Plexamp on Android:
plexamp-devices

Plex on macOS:

Also effecting me. Except PC

I have the same issue, Sonos speakers don’t show up as possible targets, whether running PlexAmp on Mac, or iPhone, same WiFi network, and Sonos works standalone fine.

In Plex Web click on your account icon then click ‘account settings’ - there should be a bit that says subscriptions, payments, other services. Click on ‘other services’ then you should be able to add a link to a Sonos account

Thank you, jimbob100101! My Plex World is a bit brighter thanks to you. Much appreciated.

then you should be able to add a link to a Sonos account

Sadly, in my case, my Plex account was already linked to my Sonos account.

However, I found a very weird workaround. Sort of. I borrowed an old iPhone from a family member and installed Plex on it. When I opened Plex on the iPhone, it could see the various Sonos devices in my house. What I didn’t expect was that after I used the iPhone to stream to a Sonos speaker, Plex and Plexamp on my Android phone started displaying Sonos devices.

Of course, now that I can see the Sonos devices from my Android phone, I have problems getting Plex and Plexamp to stream consistently to the Sonos devices. But that’s a separate issue.
