Can't update album release date: "Your changes could not be saved."

PMS running on Windows 10 Pro won’t let me update the release year of my albums, returning a “Your changes could not be saved” message. Doesn’t matter if the gold padlock icon is orange or grayed out.

I can change other tags (genre, for example) on the same album, but not the release date.

I’ve tried “refresh metadata” on the affected albums several times, but no joy.

I can edit the date tag using mp3tag, but Plex doesn’t appear to see the changes, even after a “refresh metadata” for that album.

What am I forgetting?

Figured it out!

Plex requires an exact date (year-month-date) for album release, not just the year. Seems counterintuitive to me, since most other music managers only want the year, but okay. Easy fix, once you know the secret.
