The Web-based player in Safari on Mac OS no longer displays some metadata in the item’s description page: Genre, Studio, Cast are not displayed – there may be others, but I’ve confirmed these.
However, these same attributes are displayed in the mobile (iOS) and smart TV (AppleTV) clients. Title and Rating are correctly displayed. Tagline and Country are not displayed in either case.
Since I manage the server from the desktop client, I’d like the desktop player there to go back to the way it previously worked, and display the metadata more completely. There’s a lot of work involved in getting the Cast names identified and properly tagged, and it would be helpful and gratifying to have the material display consistently.
Currently, the Metadata is input as both MP4 tags and within the desktop client’s edit window, but I’m in the process of moving everything textual into the MP4 tags, to support their portability.
