Casting audio to HomePods is buggy

I believe this has already sort-of been reported, but casting is extremely buggy. I can start playing a movie on my phone easily enough, but when I go to cast the audio to my HomePods, either the video doesn’t play at all (and play/pause doesn’t do anything), or I get a blank screen with audio playing out of the HomePods.

Also tried setting HomePods as the default for audio before starting to play a movie, and then I get the same blank screen with audio playing out of the HomePods.

Casting in general seems to have a lot of issues - old app (which I have on an iPad) switches audio output back and forth with zero issues.

Is it possible to get logs from the app I can add to report. I asked some folks who have HomePods and could not reproduce. Does it matter if using airplay to more multiple or just one homepod? Does Audio type matter at all?

They are actually HomePod Mini’s (2 of them in stereo), not sure if that matters or not?

For audio type, what’s interesting is if I play a TV show with AC3 stereo, it plays fine. Then I switch to the movie (which has FLAC stereo), the problem starts. Even more interesting is if I switch back to the TV show, I’m getting the same problem - blank screen with audio only.

Once it goes to a blank screen it almost seems to get “stuck” unless I completely kill the app.

What’s the proper way to send logs from the new app?

One of the folks I asked also had an Homepod mini but only had one so possibly the stereo is part of cause.

In Settings>About>Download Logs where you can airdrop them to Mac computer if that is what you have, save to files on device or mail them to yourself. You can then click on my username/avatar to see option to message the zip file to me.
