I have an AppleTV and an AppleTV 4K (with a homepod). Clicking “play” on the “old” AppleTV immediately starts playing, but not for the AppleTV4K – For the ATV4K, I have to click “play” 3 or 4 times to get anything to play. The first click brings up the first frame of the video, but it doesn’t play until the 3rd or 4th click.
Well, the work-around noted above for the OLD problem still works-around this issue.
Come on folks, it’s been over six months, and several iOS versions of Plex – when will this be fixed?
The OLD Audio Player really sucks… When watching a show, pressing “pause” now takes a second or three before the audio pauses (the video pauses immediately).
I’m also having this problem. For certain videos, playback is entirely unwatchable. The audio continues fine, but the video drops to a whopping 5 seconds per frame. Read that again, not 5 frames per second, 5 seconds per frame!
I turned off the “old audio player” and ---- Voila, The “clicking play fails” went away!
Clicking play on an Apple TV 4K using a HomePod for audio now works!!! Woo Hoo!
I came here for this. I had my AppleTV 4k 2nd Gen on my Samsung with a soundbar and all was fine. The soundbar crapped out so I got a HomePod to replace it and started seeing all the issues listed above. It’s like the videos start paused - then you have to click play/pause again a couple of times to start playback. Sometimes, it will play a few minutes and then the Plex app crashes (and a couple of times it has rebooted the AppleTV as well).
Playing the same shows on my 1st Gen AppleTV 4k have no issues.
Last night, I had another issue crop up where the audio cut out after 3-5 minutes of playback. The only way to get it back was to stop playback and start it again.
I’ll try the ‘old audio’ work-around when I get home tonight.
Are there any log files generated somewhere on the client? I searched the server logs and didn’t find anything abnormal.
I recently upgraded to latest Apple TV box and am having the same issues - using dual homepods for audio, many shows won’t start when clicking them - have to hit play a bunch of times. And full auto cutout happens almost everything I watch at some point - have to exit and go back in.
I tried the “old audio” trick and got no audio at all.
as of the latest version (installed today, released dec 11, 2024, version 8.4.4), playing on a HomePod fails completely. if you can get it to start playing after 10-20 clicks, it loses audio within about 1 minute of play, forcing a restart of plex to get it to start again.
also, switching to “old audio player” causes no audio at all.
in previous versions, it would at least eventually start working, after many attempts to play, but this new version is extremely bad in that it simply will not play more than a minute, if you can get it to play at all.
what happened? will there be an update to address this, or the ongoing audio problems?
editing to add, before it loses all audio, first one of the dual HomePods stops working, then the audio drops to about 50%, then the audio disappears completely.
@deprived and @ohmyjosh, I tried the old audio trick last night and also got no audio at all. I switched it back and got audio (but had the click issue). I then went back and switched to old audio and restarted the AppleTV and it works fine now (aside from the listed issues with old audio like sound playing longer than the video when pausing / skipping intro).
Been paying for the Infuse player for over a year now because Plex doesnt care to support one of the most common scenarios for using their product.
One thing is sure, Plex will never get one cent of my money again. It’s funny, when I started using infuse I thought the UI was worse than Plex’s but today Plex has enshittified itself so much that it would be a downgrade to go back to their player.
