Casting from Plexamp to Google speaker group

Server Version#: 4.76.1
Player Version#:Plexamp 4.7 (6,904)

When I cast audio from Plexamp (or the Plex app) via my phone or tablet (Samsung, both), I can cast to a single Google device, no problem, however, when I try to cast to a speaker group (which are all Google devices), I am having a problem. This problem manifests itself in 2 ways:

  1. When I cast to a speaker group before I select a track to play. In this instance, once I have a speaker group selected and try to play a track, Plexamp has a mini-crash. I.e. the now-playing screen for the track appears for a moment, but then I am immediately kicked back to the track listing and the song does not play on any of the speakers.
  2. If I start casting to a single device (which works), but then attempt to cast to a 2nd speaker in the group (or add a speaker group) via Google Home after the track starts playing. In this case, the track seems to cast to the additional devices, but I get no audio… for example, I can see the track info appear on the screen of one of the devices that has a screen, but no audio plays from that device, the audio only plays from the first device.

I am pretty sure I have previously been able to cast to speaker groups from Plexamp, and I am not experiencing this issue with YT Music, Pandora, etc. (those apps/services stream to speaker groups just fine) so it seems to be Plex-specific… I’m wondering if this is a known issue with Plexamp, or if this is fallout from the Sonos decision? It’s odd that it only happens with Plex/Plexamp… any thoughts/help/troubleshooting ideas would be most welcome.

Thanks in advance!

Seems that may be the case… I see that Chromecast supports ‘FLAC’ and ‘multichannel’ output, but there is no specific mention of ‘FLAC multichannel’ output.
What was/is throwing me off a bit is that when the file starts playing, the dashboard initially shows FLAC-Direct Play for the first 10-15 seconds of the track, and then switches to Opus. So, I was thinking that the bandwidth was limiting the Direct Play, and thus causing the switch to Opus.
Doing more research, it looks like a Dune will accomplish what I am after, so I’ll start looking that direction.
Thanks!!

I think this was intended for your other open topic?
(and yes, I’ve also noticed that the dashboard can take some time before showing the correct format/transcode info)

Good grief… yes. Thank you.

just for clarification, the same behavior with plex and plexamp mobile apps? if so it might be something on the chromecast receiver side, since both apps share that.
