Why am I getting this casting player control notification when I’m not casting?
It’s not a casting notification in particular, but a general notification.
Take a look into the preferences of your mobile Plex app, under Notifications.
Yeah I can turn it off, problem is it also turns off casting controls. Every other app I’ve got only displays these controls while casting, and this means I’ve either got to always have this notification, or never have player controls, or toggle the notification settings every time I switch from device to casting.
No, that is not the ‘preferences’ I meant. You are in the phone’s preferences.
I was referring to the preferences of the Plex app on your phone.
Well I looked there first. I’ve got nothing under Notification settings, nothing under Advanced, and when I hit “Companion and Cast” nothing happens.
Go back to the first of these 3 screenshots.
These are all submenu items.
If you are not the only user of this server, you might get notified about playbacks started by others. So try disabling ‘Playback started’.
btw. wiping down from the upper screen border should extend the notification area and tell you what this notification icon is about. (will obviously only work while a notification icon is present)
It is a shared server, but the notification is only showing what’s playing on my device (attachments 1 & 2). “Playback Started” is already unselected (attachment 3)
Then it is simply a notification of playback and it provides you with this mini player in the notification area. Which you could use to control playback of audio if the Plex app itself is in the background.
That’s normal and intended.
Why did it just start happening? And how do I turn it off without disabling cast controls? If it’s normal and intended, why’s it taken this much back and forth?
I promise I’m not trying to be an asshole, my goal is to be helpful but being autistic, I usually get read as blunt or rude.
It’s been doing this already for a long time and why would you want to disable it?
First of all, it’s definitely only been there for about a week. I don’t know if some settings changed, or if some settings got consolidated, but it did not used to be there.
Second of all, why on earth would I want that? If it was a feature that people wanted, Netflix and Hulu and Amazon Prime and HBO and YouTube would all be running casting notifications when you’re watching shows on your phone. When I’m watching shows on my phone, the controls are right there on the video. if I click off the app, I either get a picture in picture which also has its own controls, or the video just stops.
