I’ve just gotten myself a new OVH server with a 7700K. It supports QuickSync, so as you can imagine, I was excited! After a lot of searching it looks like I can’t use the iGPU for hardware acceleration without having a monitor attached directly. Is there a way to work around this?
a dummy plug of the appropriate type (hdmi or displayport).
amazon has them pretty cheap.
no I don’t think there is any other way… real monitor or dummy plug.
Looks like I needed to refresh my grub file.
OVH inserted a NOMODESET flag into the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX line. Removed and grub file pushed.
Holy moly… that’s made a world of a different now that it’s working. A 41GB 4K movie takes up less than 5% CPU usage now, compared to 50%+ before. Plexdrive is using more resources pulling the file itself!
