Ceton InfiniTV Cards

“Are Channels encrypted with DRM supported?
Channels encrypted with DRM of any kind are not currently supported.”

You can record premium channels, as long as they do not have DRM. I’ve recorded shows on HBO and watched them without any problems. Don’t mix up the terms “premium channels” and “DRM”, because they are not the same and they are not interchangeable. Any software that can record DRM content MUST go through certification from CableLabs.

I’m in the same boat. Currently using Ceton 4 tuner card with WMC on Windows 7 and aware of the pending loss of support/guide but staying for now because of the hardware investment.

Have you heard of epg123? Excellent piece of software to provide guide data to WMC! Requires a $25 annual subscription to Schedules Direct but it’s well worth it for Zap2It guide data!

@kd6icz I didn’t know about epg123 and SD. Thanks for sharing. If PLEX doesn’t come around to supporting my Ceton, I will definitely use this to keep WMC running. TBH there is no point in doing it now since my guide data is up to date. But once that changes… Realy hate having paid for PLEX Pass. For my use it hasn’t worked out. I am especially referring to remote sharing/access of my server (on a NAS). The remote app ALWAYS has issues, constantly have to reauthorize the remote TV. Same TV over and over. Not even mentioning the silence on Ceton tuners. SiliconDust and Ceton WERE/ARE the whole market. And Ceton is getting zero love.

But @kd6icz thanks again, for the info about epg123.

Honestly part of the issue with the Ceton cards is that Ceton has walked away from the consumer market as well. When was the last time anyone heard anything from them. All if there cards are discontinued on their site as well. I would love plex to support the card, but if they don’t i will not be surprised.

@mavrrick it’s true Ceton seems to have gone dark in respects to new development. But SiliconDust tuners are just as old. They aren’t new. Only thing they are working on is PVR software. Hardware wise SD just a dead as Ceton.

I can still buy a brand new HDHomeRun tuner, and they support their equipment, and they release beta firmware very often for them. If I was a software developer I wouldn’t spend any time at all on the Ceton hardware - stick with hardware that you can still buy.

Yea. That was exactly my point. Personally I would love it if plex would add the Ceton card. I have a Ceton infiitv4 from the second production batch. I just don’t see the point when Ceton hasn’t done anything with the cards for a long while. Silicon Dust has kept updating there firmware and improving there environment.

As a former owner of many Ceton tuners and a current owner of SD tuners, if I were Plex, I wouldn’t even consider Ceton! They were full of great ideas… But absolutely horrible execution!

Plex would be dealing with a bunch of issues that have nothing to do with their software. A bunch of users throwing complaints at them that they can do nothing about!

Once I made the switch to HomeRun tuners, my WMC experience has been pretty much flawless. Adding epg123 and I don’t plan on leaving WMC until I can’t find a working Xbox360!

Comparing Silicon Dust to Ceton is apples and oranges. Ceton has one employee left… Silicon Dust HAS released new tuners in the past year. The one that has hardware transcoding (I don’t remember the name). They still have a full staff and plenty of momentum.
