I find "On Deck" to be one of the most used features of Plex for me. It makes it easy to watch TV series and to find partially watched movies or TV shows without having to remember what I got interrupted while watching.
However there is one behavior I would like to see changed:
When watching a TV series once you watch the last episode available the series is removed from "On Deck." This makes sense because there is nothing left to be watched next.
However when you add a new episode to a series that has already been watched, and therefore correctly removed from "On Deck," you have to browse to that episode in order to watch it.
What I would like to see is that when you add an episode to an already watched TV series that episode gets placed "On Deck."
I think this would enhance the experience for many Plex users.
Something like this is really needed at times like now when the new seasons are starting up and those of us that have an automated recording process are having a lot of new shows added by those processes from series that were completely watched last season.
I suppose it could be an "option" so those that don't want it could avoid it.
If I add a new episode to a show that just aired it will show up on "On Deck"
I saw this earlier today after adding New Girl and Chicago Fire.
I do not remember seeing this work this way. Maybe I missed it. Could have sworn the last time I added a show that I was caught up on watching it did not show there. Perhaps there is a time limit on it?

I will look at is again tomorrow when I will add the series that air tonight. (Maybe record it?)
Time limit is a (strange) possibility, can't remember what happened last week after adding first episode of the new season.
[edit]
I now see that tonight the first episode of the new season of Criminal minds will air,

The series "Bones," "NCIS" and "NCIS Los Angeles" have aired new episodes for the new season. "NCIS" has had two new episodes, "NCIS Los Angeles" has had one and "Bones" has had one. None of the series got automatically added to my "On Deck" list.
I Wondered if different clients might be responsible? I am using Roku primarily but I do not see additions to "On Deck" on my Android tablet either nor do I see it in the web client on my Windows PC.
BTW: By including the category "Newly added" to my Roku's home screen, it was previously disabled, I now have a way to see the series as they are added but I would rather have the "On Deck" perform this function.
.....but I would rather have the "On Deck" perform this function.
it already does.
There is a advanced settings in the server settings which lists how many weeks "on deck" maintains watching a series in order to see new episodes, you just need to make sure this is set to longer than 52 weeks (or whatever) if you want it to capture eps which are a year apart. Obviously, this may have some impact on the performance of your ondeck given the DB queries it now performs needs to scan much more data.

So maybe it is a "time' thing. Hmmm, will be able to test this week. Thanks Bob.

Mine is set at 52 weeks, and has been for about three months, and the new episodes do not show up in on deck if the series was previously completely watched. So either it is not designed to do this or there is a bug.

mine is on 104 weeks, and it works for everything...so maybe it is just measuring the 52 from some weird point.
Just to update this: After moving the "On Deck" period to 104 weeks the automatic adding to "on deck" of new episodes to an already watched series seems to be working.
Last night "Bones - s10e02 - The Lance to the Heart" aired and was added to my library and, shortly after it was added, it showed up automagically in my "On Deck" list at the first position.
It does seem that 52 weeks should have worked fine but 104 weeks is OK with me and I have noticed no significant slow operations in any of my Plex usage.
So, I guess this is now a non-issue for me. I am content with this behavior.

If all previous episodes were deleted, it seems it won’t show up in “on deck.” Maybe some of your shows have been deleted and some haven’t?
I NEVER delete TV shows unless I replace them with a better version but this thread is VERY old and most of what was discussed no longer applies as both the server and the clients have changed dramatically.
