Manually add items on deck

Not sure if this has been asked for or not, but I thought it would be handy if you had the ability to select movies to add on deck. This could be especially useful for those with large libraries where it’s easy to forget when you were intending on watching a certain movie.

Also fantastic for us on 'movie night'; movie's already queued up and ready to roll.

Aka; technology making things effortless :)

Did this ever happen? I haven’t been able to locate the option to do so, and I would really love to be able to add TV shows that have fallen off my On Deck for various time out reasons. What I do now, is go in to the show, start the next episode and watch a few minutes. But I often want to add half a dozen shows (my “B tier” of shows that have fallen by the wayside while the “A tier” have been airing), and so watching a few minutes of each adds up.

This has been asked for multiple times but Plex has never officially answered it and at times it has even been hinted at as impossible. But there has been at least one client (RARflix on the Roku) can do it but the developer, who has since been hired by Plex, has been prevented from implementing it in the new Plex channel for the Roku.

Personally I believe that it would be simple to add and should be in every client and in the web interface. That is there should be a choice when browsing shows to “Put on deck” any item that is viewed without having to fake that function through a partial play or even a FF a short way through them.

This makes a lot of sense for those of us that use On Deck as our primary way of accessing shows for ongoing watching.

But Plex probably will never implement it because it does not fit how Plex thinks Plex should be used and Plex does not really listen to their users unless the users want things that fit into Plex vision of how media should be accessed.

Plex often pretends to be open but they are really very closed and closed minded. They never really accept input from users unless that input fits in with their view of how our library should be accessed.

Now they have even “fixed” it where movies do not appear in On Deck and while that is fine by me there are others that would like their movies and TV shows to both appear On deck so they have a list of things they might want to watch next regardless of Plex’s view that no one would want to see movies and TV shows together.

If the Plex system were a dog I guess we could truly say he has been “fixed.”

How is this not a thing yet? Even if it’s not added to On Deck, surely a list of things to watch later (I know they have that pointless watch later thing for web videos) is an obviously needed feature? No?

The Netflix queue is invaluable, bizarre that Plex aren’t interested?

I know this is an old post but it seems we are still waiting for this feature. The only simple workaround I can find for it is to start the show / film, scroll through a few minutes and it should then appear under Continue Watching and when you go to watch it, just start it again from the beginning.

+1 from me. Especially because of Movie Collections. Watched the first movie of a collection last week. Had to look at play history to remember which collection that was. Would be awesome if I could have added the next movie or even the collection itself to on deck, making it easier to remember where I left off from that movie collection.

Maybe you should rather back this request: Feature Request - Watchlist

I voted for that request, yes, thank you. Though I really think movies in collections should be added automatically, as tv episodes in a series are.

I disagree. Collections can be used in a number of different ways. Not only how TMDB defines them (they only allow direct sequels & prequels within a collection).
Imagine a collection of only topically-related movies for instance. I wouldn’t want Plex to queue these automatically.

Valid point that I hadn’t considered. More reason to vote for a wishlist feature on the Home screen.

Seriously, is this ever going to happen?

With the recent changes that mean we can’t force something onto on deck/continue watching by marking the episode before it as unwatched then watched again, could this request please be looked at?

I have a number of programs I watch, but sometimes they fall out of the “On Deck” window. However, I still want those programs on the “On Deck” list so they are there when I am ready to get back to them.

I would like to be able to manually add those programs back to the “On Deck” list.

Every show you watch will appear in OnDeck.

There is a time frame after which a show disappears from OnDeck. Maybe it is this time frame that is set too short for your taste?
Settings - Server - Library - ‘Show Advanced’ - “Weeks to consider for On Deck and Continue Watching”

No, I have plenty of shows that I’ve started watching but stop and those can’t fall off the list fast enough. Sometimes this happens when one of my kids watches a show accidentally on my account instead of their own.

I’m talking about shows that I’ve started watching, but then switched to another series for some reason, then want to go back to the original series I was watching.

For instance, I’m watching a show that is in the current broadcast lineup and therefore have to wait each week for the next episode to show up. So instead, I switch to another series of which I already have all the episodes while more episodes of the first series build up in the library. However, sometimes by the time I finish the second series the first one has dropped off the list, and may even get buried in the “recently aired” category. Sometimes series also fall out of the list during their winter break, but that can be adjusted with the timeout.

If you don’t like the idea of manually adding, then have the drop-off time be variable for each series, but I would expect a manual method would be easier to implement.

Of course, I could set the time to be large, but then I would need the other feature request I’ve seen that asked to manually remove a series from the On Deck or some list like that.

So I would have thought the solution would be as Otto said.
Extend the on deck period. Meanwhile if you or your kid watch something by mistake or your simply not into it, mark the whole show watched or unwatched. :grinning:
The last part of this takes care of the other feature request.

Eh. Ok. Not a big deal, I guess.

I understand where you’re coming from however everyone votes are limited to 5 nowadays. So you may not get much traction.
I may be wrong however and then again it doesn’t always need a feature request for something to be implemented.

I’d like to see this capability. It would be most helpful for finding a show on the computer and “queuing” up for big screen playback.

Some examples:

  • a new show that may have been added a few weeks ago and isn’t near the surface anywhere else.
  • if a show has fallen off the on-deck because you waited too long to watch.
  • cases where you want to rewatch a single episode from a show you’ve already watched or a movie. Being able to add it to on-deck from another device would make the big screen access easier than trying to hunt it down in another queue or playlist or the main library.
