Does anyone know if there is a setting for the DVR to change the resolution of the recording file it creates? My goal here is to reduce the CPU used during the playback of said recording file. Currently files are created in 1080P which my current CPU is causing playback issues, i.e. pauses and constant buffering. All my other media files play fine - only having issues with DVR files.
By default, the resolution on disk is following what is received from your tuner.
Apparently, tv is broadcast in your area as 1080p, so that is what goes into the file.
If you want to change that, you either have to
- transcode right while it is recording (edit the ‘Device Settings’ of your DVR)
- create a post-processing script, which can use a different software to transcode after the recording has finished
- create an Optimize job which transcodes everything in your DVR library (also performed after the recording has finished)
either way, the transcoding has to be done at some point in time. And your server needs to be fast enough to do it.
WIth the first option it even has to be fast enough to do it in real-time, or your recording will be faulty.
Thanks for the reply. Although, i have not tried this recommendation I believe this will assist for those who may have the same problem. I corrected my difficulties with playback errors by placing Plex Media Server on a computer with a more robust CPU - I went from an Intel 1.7Ghz to a 2.97Ghz and that cleared up all buffering issues!
Happy Plexing!
