When in the “Keep (however many episodes)” setting where it says “Set the maximum number of unplayed episodes to keep for the show.” I think there should be an option to switch it from “unplayed” to “watched” or “both”. 3 options. That way a plex user can set up their server to behave more like a regular dvr.
What I mean is that I’d like to be able to set Plex to keep the latest 3 episodes of a show and auto-delete all other episodes of that show. I don’t care whether the episodes being kept or deleted are watched or unwatched, I just want the latest 3. Everything else gets auto-deleted. Is this possible? It sounds pretty simple to me but I’m not a programming expert.
An example would be if a show ended I’d want the last 3 episodes to stay on my system until a new season came on (even after I’ve watched them).
Right, but the keep setting only applies to “unwatched” episodes. It completely ignores watched episodes and won’t delete them. I want it to keep the last 3 episodes whether they are watched or unwatched and delete everything else.
Highly agree, should at least be an option. I record the daily news program and usually don’t finish watching it. I end up with a string of old news shows that I’d never want to watch again. But I can see that someone might generally want to just keep the current show but want to hang on to old shows that have not been completely watched. That’s why it should be an option.
I think this is a very intuitive DVR feature for those who record news broadcasts.
In my household it is very common to watch a partial news cast before moving on for the day.
A good example is the US national morning new shows like Today or GMA. They often record as a two hour broadcast but we only watch 20-40 minutes of it.
After a day the broadcast is no longer relevant and should be auto removed on next recording, if the recording setting is at one episode only.
This is how the Dish Network DVR works, as a comparison.
