I’d like to be able to set Plex to keep the latest 3 episodes of a show and auto-delete all other episodes of that show. I don’t care whether the episodes being kept or deleted are watched or unwatched, I just want the latest 3. Everything else gets auto-deleted. Is this possible? It sounds pretty simple to me but I’m not a programming expert.
Short answer: Almost. Navigate to the Advanced tab of the show’s properties:
Set the value of “Keep” to “3 latest episodes.” Set the value of “Delete episodes after playing” to “After a day” (the soonest option). The former controls how many unplayed episodes the server will keep around. As soon as more are added, the oldest unplayed episode is deleted. The latter controls how soon after watching an episode it will be deleted. It’s still possible that you’ll have more than 3 episodes of a show in your library at a time, however; shows for the “Delete episodes…” setting are only reaped during scheduled maintenance.
Also, in order for this to work, “Settings -> Library -> Allow media deletion” must be enabled.
Right, I’ve been doing that. What I’m requesting here is that Plex users are given the option to set Plex to behave more like a regular DVR and keep both played and unplayed episodes so long as they are one of the newest 3. I want it to delete both played and unplayed episodes if they are not one of the latest 3 episodes.
Ah, my mistake. Since you didn’t mention them I assumed you were unaware of these settings.
That being the case, you may want to post here so that folks can vote on your suggestion:

You may be able to just change the tags on this thread so that it ends up there, I’m not sure. If you do end up changing it I’ll delete my posts here so as not to confuse the issue.
Oh okay, I’m new on these forums. Thanks.
