Keep Latest Episode not deleting old shows

I have my HDhomeRun DVR set to record the morning news program daily. The advanced edit is set to keep “Latest Episode” and to delete after playing “After a day”. However, if I watch only a portion of a show (usually the case), it never gets deleted automatically, leaving a string of old partially watched shows that I don’t want. Is there a way to automatically have these old shows removed and only keep the latest show in Plex?

Not currently. There is a (not very popular) feature request for this:

Change "Set the maximum number of unplayed episodes to keep for the show."

When in the “Keep (however many episodes)” setting where it says “Set the maximum number of unplayed episodes to keep for the show.” I think there should be an option to switch it from “unplayed” to “watched” or “both”. 3 options. That way a plex user can set up their server to behave more like a regular dvr. What I mean is that I’d like to be able to set Plex to keep the latest 3 episodes of a show and auto-delete all other episodes of that show. I don’t care whether the episodes being kept …

It could probably be worded a bit better, but there it is.

However, as it stands now, only episodes which are marked unplayed (Keep) or played (Delete episodes after playing) can be automatically deleted.
