Changelog stays the same for new versions?

Server Version#: 1.40.5.8897

I sometimes get the tooltip in the top right corner of the Plex interface that says “Server Update Available”. When I click the menu entry, it gives me a popup that as of now says “You are currently running version 1.40.5.8897 on the server “servername”. Version 1.40.5.8921 is now available.”, and then there’s a link to release notes. The thing is, every time the release notes are just the same release notes.

Why aren’t the release notes changing with new versions?

Plex keeps 1 set of release notes per version (e.g. 1.40.5). Individual builds usually just change/add a few lines to that.

Most of the time you won’t notice this as there’s only 1 public release per version. With 1.40.5 there’s been one extra build released after that version was made available publicly. The later submissions was patching a vulnerability in the version of ffmpeg used by PMS.
You can see the differences per built highlighted in the release announcements (newly added/fixed scope is listed in bold).

Note: That line is in the 1.40 release notes, but does not appear in the subsequent notes for the 1.41 branch betas. Is CVE-2024-7272 also patched in beta?

Ah, that explains it! The only problem then is that the bold formatting does not render in the web popup in Plex Web. If it did, it would be easy to spot the differences without referring to the forum thread.

Thanks for informing!
