The release notes for Plex Media Server 1.23.0.4459 and 1.23.0.4438 are identical, save for a single bullet under ‘Fixes.’
This seems to be happening a lot lately. It’s not a huge issue, but it does make it harder to see what has actually changed from one build to the next.
That explanation doesn’t really hold up. I randomly went back in the PMS Announcement thread, and found release notes for 1.18.2.2015 and 1.18.2.2029. There was no duplication between the notes for those two minor revisions of the same version. So it certainly isn’t necessary.
We used to only list the change in beta releases but folks got upset that other previous changes (if they skipped a release) were not mentioned. that is why in the forum release notes they are duplicated however the new thing or fix added to more recent beta should afaik been called about by being bolded or something so you can easily see what was different about that beta compared to previous beta.
in forum I believe the public release just says X is available to all because it would be exact same as previous beta. In the server settings “whats new” it should list everything afaik.
I’d agree, except that that assumes we know what Plex considers to be a version change and a hotfix, and which (if any) part of the version string signifies it.
In this case it appears to have just been a hotfix to address the problem of the server not starting on 32-bit Linux.
