Changing Audio Track names?

I just discovered (after adding hundreds of movies/series/cartoons to my Plex) that while prepping them on Handbrake I can designate custom audio track names (like commentaries for example).

Is there any way–short of re-doing everything on Handbrake-- to change these audio track names either in plex or in the .mkv file metadata itself?

BTW I would have tried posting this in “Tips and Tricks” but the “New Topic” button was greyed out.

Thanks.

You don’t want to send your file repeatedly through Handbrake. Particularly not for something trivial like changing track titles. Because every time the quality will get worse.

Download and install MKVtoolnixGUI
and make yourself familiar with it.

For changing a whole series of files of the same makeup (e.g. a tv series), take a look at How to remove tag spam and set language in several MKV files at once

Thanks…I use it often for merging tracks from different files. Didn’t know I could rename. I’ll give it a look.

You can get a hint from this post Adding a second audio stream manually

So from what I can surmise, I’m changing the name of the track and then just reoutputting it to replace the original file? At least that’s what worked with the first file I tried.

You can do that.
Or you switch to the “header editor” mode of mkvtoolnix and edit the file’s headers directly. No replacing necessary, since the file is changed in-place.

Ah yes. That worked well. Much easier. Thank you for all the help.
