Changing Destination Drive

Server Version#: Version 1.40.1.8227
The disc drive I use for one of my libraries has broken and the files have been lost. Luckily I’ve backed them up to another Disc Drive. Is there a way of pointing the files to the new drive without using the background art which I added using the Plex edit function? Is there a way or will I have to manually re add it which will take ages

If your disk is a mirror of the lost one and have the same letter, you just need to plug it and everything should be fine

Hi thanks, What do you mean by the same letter? The broken drive is called /Volumes/ROB’S 4TB/ so I just need to rename the back up to the same name?

There are a few different scenarios:

  1. Your media still shows up in Plex, but is marked ‘unavailable’:
    • If your new volume is named exactly the same as the old one, and the file names are the same: just start a new scan, and Plex should see that the files are available again.
    • Your new volume is named differently, and/or the file names don’t match the old ones: follow the Move Media to a New Location support article.
  2. Your media is no longer in Plex (e.g. a scan noticed the files were missing, and the trash got emptied):
    • If you have a database backup, you can try to restore that, then follow the support article linked above.
    • If you don’t have a database backup, you may be out of luck.

If Plex still has everything in it, but the files show as missing there is an option.

Add the new drive (your backup files) as a second source and let a scan complete.

It should pick up as a duplicate copy for each of your movies or shows. Once the scan is completed and you’ve verified that they’re there, you can remove the original directory and everything should be as right as rain.

EDIT: These are basically the steps that DTR has outlined in his option 1.
