Channel Line-up Woes

My cable provider has changed their line-up several times, and now I’m missing like ten channels because Plex hasn’t updated any of my providers information.

I’ve followed the advice here and submitted the form. I tried contacting @BigWheel but haven’t heard back. I’ve also noticed that there are other users running into guide issues lately such as @Flash1990 among several others.

I submitted the form over a month ago, contacted a Plex Employee with no response. I know what the line-up should be, it’s listed here. I have an HD Homerun Prime with a cable card, my provider is Emery Telcom & Video, which I’ve noticed Plex lists twice - one as Emery Telcom & Video, which appears to be the standard cable lineup, and one as Emery Telcom & Video Digital, which appears to be the standard lineup, digital, and digital expanded packages.

I actually work for Emery Telcom & Video - and I have a theory here.

There are more guide providers than Gracenote. Gracenote actually is a subsidiary of Nielsen Media, and here’s the thing - Emery Telcom & Video (ETV) recently switched their guide provider from Gracenote to Rovi.

OTA or over-the-air guides are usually available through Nielsen Media, most likely because they have literally thousands of collocations where they scan OTA broadcast TV and verify commercial placement, views, and a whole bunch of other metrics.

So here’s the thing - if your cable provider does not use Gracenote for their guide provider, what good is Plex’s DVR guide provided by Gracenote? Apparently it only shows the old data from when ETV used Gracenote for their guide and it obviously doesn’t show any updates past that point.

So what gives? Are we limited to outdated Gracenote data?

Is there another method that could be incorporated, such as picking your channels? #FeatureRequest? Most channels actually publish their guide data on their independant websites.

Is Gracenote secretly raking Plex Employees ‘over the coals’ per se? see sarcasm

I’m having the same problem. The channel lineup for Charter/Spectrum is incomplete, in fact the channel lineups for the few TV providers in my area are all incomplete so I am not able to map my DVR channels. It’s frustrating.
