Hello all. I realize that this product hasn’t been shipped yet, but does anyone know how viable it will be to use Plex with this device? How do the specs measure up? Looks like a pretty good deal for $99. https://www.channelmaster.com/Stream_Plus_p/cm-7600.htm
Plex server or plex client?
For PMS, forget about it. Only 8 GB of internal memory.
For plex client, the audio passthrough capability is unknown. But probably only support DD and DD+ audio passthrough.
Also, unless it’s a mistake in the specs, only supports HDCP 1.4. So if one day this box supports Netflix, amazon, etc. it won’t support 4k streaming from this services because of DRM. (As for today, CM says they are negociating with Netflix to get this box certified).
This box is an android tv 7.0 google certified, so for a plex client, if you don’t require HD audio passthrough and don’t want 4k streaming from Netflix and other streaming service, I think it could do a decent job. Bonus, there is a dual ATSC 1.0 tuner on this box with free subscription EPG.
I did mean as a server, but forgot to mention that. Thanks.
I just ordered one. can’t wait.
I’m interested in this product for its OTA tuner capabilities more than its streaming feature, since it’s cheaper than the equivalent HDHomeRun offerings. Does anyone know if that part of the product might work with Plex’s live TV feature?
Currently it’s tuner will not work with plex.
Thanks. I decided to go with a HDHomeRun Extend.
I heard (through my brother, through his co-worker) that he bought one of these and said they’re in the talks for Plex support. Can anyone verify if this is true? As it is, as a standalone box that would only work on one TV, it’s useless to me, but if it had Plex support, it’d totally be worth it.
Just to set expectations, Plex is extremely unlikely to post anything publicly before it’s officially available (should that ever come to pass).
As it turns out, Google says:
(Plex app installs and works on this device since early 2018…)
But that’s just for it to run the Plex app, as any other device would. The REAL question is if Plex Media Server will be able to take in the two signals in the same way it does with hdhomerun. That’d be a great reason for people to buy these.
Plex does not currently support these tuners and is unlikely as it doesn’t seem those tuners are accessible to 3rd party software…
(unless you found something that says otherwise in that thread?)
