Channel - set transcoding resolution?

With setting the video_resolution of a media object! is that setting what the expected video resolution is, or is that what the output transcoded resolution will be?

What I’m asking is, is there some way I can ignore the default plex client setting and set the output resolution in my channel settings? To force a greater level of transcoding.

The video_resolution parameter for channel MediaObjects refers to the resolution from the source. Channels cannot override the quality settings for the server/client.

Why would you want to do that?

Only because I've noticed my network is being overloaded when trying to run 1080i DVB-T live streams as it's HDHomeRun > PVR > Plex > Client.  I'm in a temporary living situation where I can't get the network performance up.

If I go into the client settings if I reduce the lan bandwidth I can sort it out.  I was hoping I could do the similar in the channel just a temporary lan setting where I could say live tv resolution = 576p etc.

I can't think of a way to even fool PMS into providing a different stream quality based on the channel code. The transcode request will come from the client based on what it believes it (and the network) can handle.

Yeah, I can go into the settings for the plex client (on IOS) and set the wifi video rate.  I just have to remember to bump it up again for other content.
