So http://chapterdb.plex.tv/ is amazing and I’m super thankful that it’s around. However, I notice it’s in “read only mode” but is being updated quite frequently.
Who’s doing the updating and how can we get it open to user contributions?

It is currently not open to anyone. I have no idea where the updates are coming from. It could just be some automated stuff going on, but there are no new entries since the site went read-only. Plex might re-open it up to contributors one day, but there are no immediate plans for it.
Curious as to why it’s closed?
chapterdb use to be their own site. But the site shut down. They were nice enough to allow Plex to take over the data, but there were no plans on how to maintain the site so it was set to read-only. Unfortunately, this has not changed.
I would like to add a comment here, because this place stupidly closes topics after 90 days. The site needs to be redone. For one, searching for stuff is a nightmare. It doesn’t search by keywords. It goes literal from what you start typing. So if people name movies how they see fit, you may not find it. And why can’t it be updated with new content? You’re leaving a gaping hole now with new movies.
The people that ran the site stopped running it. They gave Plex rights to the info so we can continue to use the data already there instead of having it just vanish away, but we don’t have the resources at this time to redo the site or to manage it if new data was added. Hopefully something can be done in the future.
Why don’t you just open it to fan submitted content like it was previously? I mean, it’s not like there’s a ton of good data in there for a bunch of titles now.
Would you be willing to open source it for github projects if you’re not going to allow new content to be added? I mean, I’m grateful you’ve archived it, but it seems like a waste to keep it closed.
Someone still needs to QA/QC the data.
