Chapter list scrolling bugs when using new video player

Server Version#: 1.18.4.2171
Player Version#: 7.27.0.15018
Device: NVIDIA Shield TV 2017

In the settings you can enable/disable the new player.

Using OLD video player:

  • When viewing chapters, the selected chapter stays centered, and pressing left or right arrow instantly scrolls the entire row, keeping the selected chapter centered (unless at start or end of chapter list).
  • You can press right/left as fast as you want, or even hold it down to fast scroll, and the chapter row scrolls at the appropriate speed.

Using the NEW video player:

  • When viewing chapters, the scrolling behavior is different. The row doesn’t scroll until you select a chapter past the visible edge of the screen. This constant stop/start of the scrolling looks less fluid than before, and sometimes misbehaves.
  • If you press right (forward) multiple times too quickly, the chapter list stutters then closes, and you end up seeking forward in the video you’re watching. Holding the cursor down to fast scroll does not work either, as this will always close the chapter list and seek the video. Pressing left (back) in the chapter list too quickly doesn’t result in seek, but the scroll animation stutters as well (cannot keep up with button presses).

I find the old chapter scroll behavior (keeping selection centered) much smoother, aside from the scroll/seek bug in the new player.

Happy to report that 7.30.0.16390 fixes this issue, chapter scrolling is smooth again with no glitches. And with the addition of the quick settings buttons, I can finally embrace the new player and stop reverting to the old one after every update.

Thanks, devs!
