I think your second point may have been an (un)intentional feature change. If your remote has FF/RW buttons, those still perform the skip. If you hold the left or right button down, it goes into a quick seek mode with preview thumbnails similar to how Rokus seek
if during playback, I go to Subtitles Styling and I change something (colour, position, size) then the subtitles appear. They are not the colour or size that I change to but they are visible.
When I start the app again the subtitles are not visible and I have to repeat the above to make them appear.
During this testing I had twice a freeze of the app (menu constantly on, back button not working and unable to exit the app). Going back to android home, the system became very sluggish (like the Plex app was still draining resources). I had to force quit the app and things went back to normal.
Everything should be in the log (log at the last 30 min or so)
@sixones I was also surprised by the new player UI menu behavior. I don’t recall this being mentioned in any of the release notes. I was initially frustrated by not being able to FF or RW as before, and had to resort to using the new Shield remote app on my phone to get it to work.
I can confirm that Seeking with the remote arrow keys is back in the latest beta.
The other bugs are still there.
I should also mention that with the new player when you start streaming (direct play) it’s quite slow and choppy (even complaining that the network is too slow): after 10-20 sec or so it’s back to normal.
Never happened before with the same files (my network is gigabit Ethernet)
I’ve noticed that now if I back out of a video like normal, it stops playing, however, when i get back to the android home screen, i get the notification showing at the top with the option to open or stop. If this is as intended, i’d like an option to disable it. Thanks
I use my AVR remote via CEC to control the shield.
I noticed last night (did not capture client version or logs sorry), that when attempting to start a video via the “play” button (not the action button) that a video would start, but it would be paused.
Previously, the old player would start immediately (this would skip the pre-play screen, but not the resume menu) and play normally.
below is a screenshot of the remote. I am using the Play button at the bottom, not the action button in the center of the circle at top.
To turn on subtitles now requires navigating to multiple menus and significantly more scrolling. The previous player was a single down click and subtitles were available. Now it’s navigate over to the gear icon, then multiple clicks to get to subtitles. I’ve also noticed that while inside the play back settings, the selected focus jumps back to the top randomly.
Yep, I was seeing this too last night.
Selecting a movie and pressing play on the pre-play screen leaves the video paused and required a further press of the play button the on the Shield remote.
Oddly (your post just reminded me) I just retested and now it’s not happening.
I only received the update to the latest version this morning and that may be why it’s not happening anymore. That said, I didn’t see anything related in the release notes.
I have noticed that when I press stop on the remote it now pauses the video rather than exiting back to the pre-play screen which it did prior to this new beta version. To get back to the pre-play screen at the moment I have to use the ‘back’ button on the remote.
Not a problem for me to change my behaviour if this change is by design.
I have also noticed that all HD channels when watching Live TV are too ‘choppy’ to watch now whereas they were not before. SD channels are still fine. I am happy to provide logs if this is not repeatable for you.
Most of my issues have been listed above, the stop button on my remote note paused instead of stops.
When I edit Plex I get a notification something is so playing even if I have finished the episode.
Too many clicks now to enable subtitles, this needs a option on the main overlay and you shouldn’t have to go into a sub menu. The same should be true for audio.
The info about the video and what is doing is also no in a sub menu would be better to get it back to the main overlay.
The aesthetics themselves look really nice though.
One thing for any future redesign, when I chose a episode from on deck it would be nice to easily pick the next episode from the screen that follows like on the Kodi Plex addin. At the moment it’s a lot of clicks to do this.
Live TV playback is now really choppy and i’m also experiencing alot of crashes and lockups in this version. Also how does the record button work, i use my TV’s remote through HDMI CEC and when i press record in the tv guide its not allowing it to pass through to the shield as it says it cant record on a HDMI connection.
If thits still doing it in the next version i’ll get some logs.
Pressing stop on video playback often leaves a grey screen that requires the Back button to exit, and leaves an item showing as playing / paused on the TV homescreen (others have mentioned)
First few seconds of playback have a black screen (audio is fine) before video suddenly kicks in, doesn’t happen with all videos and never happened before the new playback UI update
Subtitles not working, as others have said, and definitely a step backwards in terms of UI as it is way too many button presses to get to subtitle options
Plex Home page occasionally shows as blank (with reset to defaults button showing), and requires navigating to a library and back again before it correctly loads On Deck, Recently Added etc. Only started happening with the latest update
Sony Bravia 2018. As others have mentioned live TV playback is very choppy.
The new scrubbing ability is a huge leap forward. I still have had the odd “An error occurred” when skipping forward, options are to retry or cancel. In the old version if you selected retry it managed to resume the video, in this version though it takes you back to the beginning.
