I have noticed that I can no longer see any Chapter Thumbnails for my Movie or TV library when connecting local or remotely to my own or friends plex sever.
Nvidia Shield and several android phones such as a Galaxy s22 only disply a black box with plex logo for every show / movie I try.
As the issue is not just on my server, it seems to be an android app issue going back at least a year or more. I have seen several posts similar on this forum and reddit dating back over 12 months, but i have not been acknowledgement of the bug.
Before I released this was a not just me / my server issue and the web player had been showing thumbnails fine all along, I regenerated all the thumbnails using Plex Media Scanner via command line. I can confirm thr bundles in the /media folder updated and the refreshed jpegs can be viewed fine.
Can I please be provided a test procedure to follow for further testing and log gathering so Plex can have this issue raised (if not already) and resolved.
Apologies for the delayed response. Is there anything specific you are doing on Android to connect to your server? Just tested it now on both a Samsung S23 and Nvidia Shield and I correctly see the thumbnails on chapter selection.
This is a last resort approach but have you tried clearing the app data on either device and logging in again? It needs to be clearing data and not clearing the cache.
I have my plex running from the official docker image with a bridge network mode, 192.168.90.100 Docker IP with ports mapped to my local server IP 192.168.2.4. On my android devices Im just connected to WiFi or LAN so i would expect a connection via the IP address 192.168.2.4.
I also have plex.mydomain.com setup as the remote access method with Traefik2 via the docker network.
When connecting remotely, my friends apple devices get thumbnails provided. I have not got an apple device here to try on the local LAN. I also always get thumbnail when connecting local and remote in the webbrowswr client.
I reset the android app on my S22, cache and app data. Logged back in and played three items. Two Expanse TV series and Spider-Man Across The Universe. The thumbnails for chapters remained blank..
I the played the same items again via Chrome on the same phone. Thumbnails were shown.
