Charles III

Right so I have the BBC drama “Charles III” and I have put it under movies because that’s the best fit for these sorts of one off TV drama’s and there is an entry in IMDB for it. The problem is no matter what I do the stupid Plex server wants to show the display title as “Charles Iii”, yep some stupid programmer has never heard of Roman Numerals. I guess I could try feeding the Unicode version for this, but the standard does say it is preferable to compose them from ordinary Latin characters.

Anyone any ideas on how to force the Plex server to stop messing about with the title I input and have it read “Charles III” rather than “Charles Iii” which is just wrong.

If you want happiness turn to TMDB and leave Plex Movie (IMDB) for grabbing those 240p repetitive trailers that you can’t use anyway. In the Agent Section Plex Movie should be on top of it’s list, TMDB should be on top of it’s list with Local Media Assets at the bottom of all lists everywhere:

A Movie Library
…King Charles III (2017).mp4

OR

A TV Show Library
…BBC Drama
…Season 2017
…BBC Drama - S2017E02 - King Charles III.mp4

and you’ll get the Reader’s Digest Version of the Book as well (LOL):

Pick One.

Note: I kinda prefer the ‘Movie Version’ as well, but I do enjoy a good book - it’s a coin toss I guess.

(‘Required’ as in ‘Nobody Ever Does’, but ‘Should’, ‘If they knew about it’, now you do)

Proper naming/structuring is a requirement if you like Drama, but would rather not have it when dealing with Plex. Renaming/restructuring is best performed OUTSIDE the library and you’ll need to write a new bundle for the show or movie 'cause it’s likely Plex won’t cough up that old bogus bundle you’ve been working with so The Plex Dance® was invented:

The Plex Dance®:

  1. remove show/movie from library
  2. update library
  3. empty trash
  4. clean bundles
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200392106-Library-Actions <— update library, empty trash, clean bundles
  5. bring names and structures into compliance, fiddle around, check, double check, triple check
  6. replace corrected show/movie into library
  7. update library

All Steps. In Order. No Shortcuts.

Edit the Movie in Plex and change the title manually. Don’t forget to make sure the padlock on the left of the text box turns orange and make sure you click on ‘Save Changes’.

You will find it is the same for all Movie Titles and is dependent on how the capitalisation routine works (most routines capitalise the first letter only).

It is also dependent upon the metadata that is downloaded. If the metadata was entered as Charles Iii then that is what Plex will use.

Thing is I was editing the title in Plex to try and get it right. I feel that if I enter III or any other valid Roman numerals that the Plex server or web frontend should not autocorrect the capitalization to something that is then wrong. That is does is a bug because it is simply wrong behaviour.

Gave up and removed it from the library, cleaned up and then re-added and it is correct now. I can just presume that when I added it shortly after it was broadcast that there where errors in the online databases, and Plex was keen on not forgetting about the wrong information.
