I have the Samsung app and love the app and PHT type interface. I actually am sat here waiting for my Rasberry PI to be delivered. I know for a fact that has a PHT interface too. (Im not ditching the Samsung Im just looking for a better client for a couple of friends I share my server with)

A roku is another option but not with the same interface at all and certainly not to everyones taste (especially mine.)

the cheapest way would be to use a pc device you already have with a HDMI cable and plug that into your tv

the second cheapest way were to buy a chromestick or fire tv stick

but that is not necessarily the best way, especially if you haven't the best WiFi or use a cpu-weak server.

The raspberry Pi 2 is pretty decent. It gives you the same UI as Plex Home Theater and last time I tried updating, it worked with the inbuilt update function. I only had the SD card in my computer when I set up the Pi for the first time.

Thankyou all, at the moment i have a dedicated server for plex and torrenting (linux) i have also a samsung tv and i love the user interface of plex, most of time i'm in direct streaming to watch media in full hd, for tv stick do you mean android tv box? does chromestick and tv stick are capable for full hd direct streaming?

i'm thiking for some similar this

For my money, the best low-cost experience with Plex plus Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Instant and Kodi is the Amazon FireTV Stick.  If you are not into Amazon Instant (which dominates the home screen) then in a not-exactly-standard, but not difficult, way you can install another launcher (http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/themes-apps/app-root-home-launcher-replacement-app-t3118135).

With respect to Android boxes, as soon as you start playing with it you quickly realize that, outside of Plex and Kodi, almost all good media player apps (Showbox, Netflix, Hulu, HD Cinema, and more) need some kind of mouse/air-mouse/touchpad, so you spend more money on another remote.

If you want rock-solid simple, no technical effort required, get a new Roku 2 (Model 4210).

does chromestick and tv stick are capable for full hd direct streaming?

No, they are not. That was my point. If you want cheap, you can't do full quality.

See Terry Towe's response above.
Android boxes are always a gamble.
Roku 3.

Raspberry Pi 2 running Rasplex, direct plays just about everything with AAC, LPCM, DD and DTS 5.1 sound (next release has DD+ and DTS HD).

It’s CEC enabled so use your TV remote, skinable, recommend DeadEyeFlint’s Plex Black Edition for that true 10 foot cinema experience.

Total cost up and running - $60, Pi, class 10 SD card and 2A power supply.

Further to my earlier post I had hoped to get the Pi up and running and give a verdict.

Wont be happening today though cos Amazon just alerted me by text that they just tried and failed to deliver 20 minutes ago. Amazing.. since I have been sat in the garden right next to the front door all afternoon.

Ouch!!

Ouch!!

I said something far different to ouch.. :)

Still at least when they did a call back to my mobile and I enquired about how this could be they calmly told me they must have tried delivering it to the wrong house..

Oh i feel so reassured now.... especially with their remarkable system of not needing a signature.

So, there are 3 alternatives,

1. andorid box (with kodi) where i can use plex user interface but no full hd streaming.

2. Raspberry Pi 2 (with plex ui and full hd)

3. Roku device. (with plex ui and full hd)

Right?

Question.. some tv box are full hd capable, even 4k ready, but they don't allow plex in direct stream? why?

About Raspberry Pi 2 how can i use remote? do i have to buy a dedicated remote?

I dont want to harp on about this... But because of the comments in your opening post i really would youtube the interfaces, if you havent already.

I cant speak for the android box, but as a fellow Samsung user only one of the other options has the ui that you say you like and thats the Pi.

You may get used to the roku ui or it may just sit in a drawer like mine. It does go way with me when travelling sometimes but strictly for casting to from a phone or tablet.

If the interface is as important as the price, then you can narrow your list of three down to one.

Raspberry win :-)

Another question, in the plex adroid app configs under video setting i see that i can choose 20Mpbs 1080p, i don't have media >1080p. so with android tv box that can output at 1080p i should see file in 1080 right?

Yes, you should see 1080p, as long as your local network will support the bandwidth.

I have my computer behind the TV with HDMI (it has no other monitor). So my TV is my desktop.
I had the TV repaired, and it’s smart functions just don’t work - so I’m stuck with HDMI.
Plex server on the PC streams to the Plex app downstairs…
So what we need is a player.

OpenPHT (the newer version of Plex Home Theater) with ‘Night’ skin from GIT is beautiful.
Plex Media Player also works nicely with a nice tight MPV player window (no borders around video).

Apart from that I don’t actually use apps much.

Plex Media Player is the same interface I see on my UHTV downstairs - it works windowed and fullscreen and passes through audio nicely to the receiver.
