Checking for new downloads routinely

With the old Sync feature, new content would reliably be synced to the mobile device without needing to periodically open the app.

Since the launch of Downloads, I no longer experience this. I have to periodically open the app so that Downloads can check the server to see if there’s new content to pull, or not.

Is there a way to bring back the behavior where the app will automatically periodically check for new downloads without me having to open it into the foreground?
