Choosable background when viewing pictures via PLEX

Dear Plex Development Team,

I am reaching out to share some feedback and a suggestion that I believe could significantly enhance the user experience when viewing photos within the Plex app on both iPhone and Apple TV platforms (and also all other platforms!)

As an avid user of Plex for managing and enjoying my media collection, I’ve greatly appreciated the platform’s versatility and user-friendly design. However, I’ve noticed an area where the photo viewing experience could be improved to align more closely with the high-quality experience users expect from Plex.

Currently, when viewing photos in the Plex app on iPhone and Apple TV, the background adopts the colors from the photos themselves. While this can create a dynamic viewing environment, it sometimes detracts from the photo’s visual impact, especially when viewing images with varying brightness and color schemes. This behavior contrasts with the approach taken by the iOS Photos app, where a consistent black background is used during photo viewing. The black background in the iOS Photos app offers a more neutral viewing environment, allowing the colors and details within each photo to stand out more prominently and providing a more visually pleasing and less distracting experience.

Therefore, I would like to suggest the implementation of an option within the Plex app settings to allow users to choose a black background when viewing photos. This feature would not only align Plex more closely with the user experience provided by native iOS applications but also offer users greater control over their viewing preferences, enhancing the overall enjoyment of their photo collections.

Thank you for considering this suggestion. I look forward to seeing continued improvements in Plex and am excited about the platform’s future developments.

Best regards,
Martin
