Choppy audio on a single TV show series, not on the rest

Out of the blue, one of my TV shows (Modern Family) has chopped, stuttering audio. The video plays fine, but the audio stutters. Monday, we watched a portion of this TV show and didn’t have a problem. Last night, we tried to finish the show and encountered the stuttering. Every episode of this show (even the episodes we’ve watched) are this way. This isn’t a problem with any other TV shows or Movies.

To try to fix the issue:
I shutdown the Media Server, restarted the Mac Mini, removed the folder with the problem shows, updated the Library, then added the folder back, updated the Library…the problem persists.

Has anybody else had this issue with just one of their TV shows?

Most recent version of Media Server on Mac Mini
Problem occurs on all platforms: Android phone, Apple TV 4, iPad Air 2

CORRECTION: I accessed the episode remotely and the audio was perfect watching in Internet Explorer 11!

Help! Anybody?

I had the same problem. It’s a bug in the latest version(s) of Plex Media Server. Reinstall an older version and the problem will go away. Restore from TimeMachine backup e.g. If you have that.

Plex releases have become horrendously buggy. Updating either client or server always seems to break something to the point that it can become unusable. Fine if you can rollback, but a pain in the ass if the platform doesn’t support downgrades (see the misery that is the 1.3 client on tvOS 10).

Thank you! It’s crazy that one television show is messed up, while all the others in the exact same format work perfectly fine! If they don’t update soon, I’ll revert to an older version. Thanks, again!

No problem. I think it has to do with the audio codec that is used. I seem to recall the problem occurs with video files that have audio in AC-3 format (Dolby Digital). The file extension (MP4, MKV) doesn’t matter, either can have AC-3 audio or not. This explains why some shows and movies work just fine and others just stutter.

If you need any help with going back to an older version of PMS just let me know. I’m running PMS on a Mac mini as well and it’s working fine. I’m running version 1.0.3.2461.
