I normally use a Chromecast on my TV with the Plex app on my iPhone to cast content. This setup used to work fine, but recently I’ve been running into an issue.
When I cast from the Plex app to the TV, the screen changes to the Plex logo as expected. However, when I try to play something, nothing happens — the TV stays on the Plex logo screen. On my iPhone, the player goes black as if playback has started, but the content never actually plays.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
Restarted Chromecast, TV, Plex server, and iPhone
Reinstalled the Plex app on my phone
Ensured Chromecast and iPhone are on the same network
Unfortunately, none of these steps have fixed the problem.
Has anyone else experienced this, or is there a known fix?
Also the chromecast works with the other apps without issues.
Hey, I am also having issues with casting to a Chromecast. Not exactly the same, but I also have very similar issues, with same approaches to fixing it to no avail.
Only in my case when I cast, it loads the episodes, then buffers for a second or two, and then just goes to the home screen. With series it just skips to the next episode of the series, until the end of the season where it goes back to the home screen.
Hey thank you for replying. So I tried this and it did change in terms of it went away from the Plex logo on my TV. It looks like it’s about to play the episode as the screen changes from Plex logo and goes to black and the bar showing it’s attempting to play but nothing happen.
Any updates or success? Similar issue. Except when I hit cast from iOS app, chromecast gets a black screen and small grey loading circle. Eventually iOS app reverts to main screen and chromecast spins a while longer before reverting to homescreen. From iphone 12 mini to 1st gen chromecast
Similarly, tried chromecast factory reset, deleted/reinstalled app, confirmed latest firmware and OSs, same network, no Adblock or proxy business.
Seems straightforward but just fails. I’ve been casting from my PC via chrome but that’s a pain of a workaround.
Doesn’t sound like it’s a consistent issue across iOS / chromecast though, are others not having problems?
Hi thank you for responding. No I am afraid I have still not found a fix either. I am also casing from iPhone 12 mini but it just does not work. I am not sure why there is no fix for this. I have had to buy a Roku but would prefer to use the chromecast.
