I have been using Plex for years to cast media to my TV. A few weeks ago, however, we sat down for family movie night and couldn’t get either my Android nor my wife’s iPhone to connect to the Chromecast. We gave up for the night, but the problem has persisted and includes the web app as well. It did work once in the last few weeks, but that has not repeated.
There are no error messages. The app says it is connecting, the Plex loading screen comes up on the Chromecast but then disappears a second or two later. I can play media on my phone or laptop, just not cast to the screen.
I have factory reset the Chromecast, rebuilt my Plex server, reinstalled all the mobile apps, and even pulled out an old router and built a test network with the Plex server, mobile phone, and Chromecast to check for network misconfiguration. Nothing works.
I have tested out Jellyfin and like what I see there, however it doesn’t support casting on iOS so that is a kind of non-starter.
Any suggestions out there? Reading the forums about similar issues doesn’t give me a lot of hope.
