Chromecast. From PLEX web interface play with direct stream, from android app does transcoding

Hi all. I wanted to know if someone if having the same problem i’m having or if it is a know issue. I have plex server running on a RPi3(works amazing) and a chomecast on the TV. When I start a streaming from the web interface of plex to the chromecast, it play with direct streaming, when I do the same thing from the plex app on android, it does transcoding(both cases on local lan). If I understand correctly how plex works, in both cases no matter the device initiating the streaming request is the chromecast the one to request content to plex server, but for some reason in one case does transcoding and I dont know why. Any ideas?

Literally the same exact problem here, except with iOS.

Exact same issue, this has been a problem for a while now.

Same issue here - when casting to a Chromecast from iOS the server starts transcoding. Casting the very same video from the web app and it does direct play as expected.

Exact same issue, tried with different file format and quality, still transcoding with android app and not with web.

I have this issue too, very annoying. Cannot play anything anymore on the Chromecast from my Synology NAS using my phone.

same for me, i have to manually change to original on the app…

Exact same issue here. Attached are the parial log files. I have a Nexus5, and plex installed on a Pi3.
The movie casts perfectly from the browser, but not from the app.

For what it’s worth, the workaround I found on this forum: Dont use the native app but use your browser on your phone. The Plex isn’t really responsive, so navigating kind of sucks, but casting then works perfectly.

Also having this problem, running Plex Version 3.34.1 on Ubuntu 17.10 and the latest version of Plex app on Android 8.1.0.

I’m a free plex user, so I understand ‘my’ plex problems aren’t solved over night, but you would expect plex pass users do have an actual say in this… At least some official response would be nice.
