Chromecast Ultra and 2nd Gen - Error code: h4 (Not Supported)

Just updated my server to 1.20.3.3437. No relief from this ridiculous issue.

Dear Plex: If you want my money for a lifetime pass, the product has to work as advertised. Please fix this bug.

Update 2020/10/20 - THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ALMOST 10 MONTHS NOW.
If you are new or old to this long and frustrating thread, please tweet/retweet about this like I have here because it seems like we have to shame Plex into fixing and prioritising this issue of making Chromecasts work.
Also, please be sure to like the first post as it will show Plex that this is an issue. Respond to this thread to keep the issue alive as long as it is an issue.

Thanks everyone.

Confirming it’s still a problem here, too. Seems totally random.

Seeing as Plex have just announced some Chromecast updates here:

I’m very much hoping they can notice this long-running issue and fix.

Any changes with 4.45? Mostly asking to trigger notifications for people here who aren’t stalking the Chromecast announcement thread.

Just updated to server version 1.20.3483. Still no relief.

Same issue here. Movie is fine for 60 min. Then the log is flooded with
Unexpected notification stream hello
And
Chromecast did not move header accept

And the whole thing goes belly up
Stuttering like crazy.

I am direct streaming a SD movie to chromecast ultra.

Plex is a joke

Really??
Still no fix for this
Starting to regret that I paid for lifetime subscription.

Upgraded to server 1.20.4.3517. Still no relief.

WTF, Plex?

Lifetime Plax Pass here also.
I used to recommend Plex to anyone that will listen.

I have multiple Chromecasts. All generations. When I see this error I clear the storage on the Android Plex app I am casting from and log back into the app.

Casting always works fine after doing this.

Already tried this, twice
Even more, when starting to cast the app itself tries to open the link that should actually be sent to Chromecast
I get a ā€œopen link withā€ Android popup

And when it eventually starts playing, it is stuttered and after few seconds I get the error

I have NEVER had that happen. What version of Android?

I don’t have any of these issues. I’m running the latest versions of Android, PMS, Plex app on Android, and regularly use all generations of Chromecast. Family members remotely cast all of the time.

I’m definitely still seeing this problem randomly with my Gen2 and latest Android. Someone else mentioned that if you start the video on your Android device, then start casting, it doesn’t seem to have the problem. This is my current work around, but it’s super annoying that this problem is still here.

It is dependent upon the recordings. I can take a 5.1 audio track and mix it down to 2.0 audio with ffmpeg and the recording works. None of my recordings with 5.1 audio work.

Almost all of my recordings have 5.1 audio. No issues here.

I don’t ever start the playback on my Android device first.

The files I’m having issue with don’t have 5.1, so that’s definitely not it.

Does not matter where I cast from: Android or iOS. If I leave it with default direct stream, it stutters a lot. If I try to change the encoding it crashes with h4 error .

It is not related to the device that sends the cast, it is related to the Chromecast connection to Plex

Try this as a test. Under settings, network, enable ā€œTreat WAN IP As LAN Bandwidthā€. If this fixes the stuttering, you have DNS rebinding protection issue with your router.
