I’ve been having trouble getting Plex Server setup for some reason.
I’ve tried it on my NAS, on my Mac and via Docker but keep getting the same “A problem has been detected with a core component of Plex Media Server.” error.
I’ve just done a full reinstall on my Mac and downloaded the latest Media Server and on running that, I’m getting the same error before.
I don’t have a clue why it’s producing this error on various completely different platforms but I have included the logs from my Mac (macOS 15.6) here in the hope that someone may be able to help!
FWIW, I’ve just downloaded the previous version which is working fine so based on the number of other very recent posts about this issue, there seems to be a problem with the version released on August 8th.
We are aware of the problem and are already looking into it. Right now I am collecting reports and information (your report is one of them) and we have people looking into this issue). Thank you for the report.
I want to add some information, since I was looking into what problem I could be having and I realized that when I updated to the new version it changed the permissions of some configuration folders including the root folder of Plex Media Server, when I tried to go back to the previous one it gave me an error, so I modified the permissions of all the folders again to how I had them before and the previous version started working again, so it is possible that the problem lies there, in that the new version gives you a different group and user, the owner user being 1001 and the group: server

Tried installing on 2019 Macbook Pro this is the second time I’ve reinstalled the application after uninstalling and restarting computer. Led me to the same page saying that there was a problem with a core component.

MOD EDIT: Moved your post to this thread, which is the same topic. @FordGuy61
Just downloaded both Plex app and Media server. Plex app opens with the error in the title every time; trying to open the media server does absolutely nothing. I’ve found several other posts here and elsewhere with people having the same issue but haven’t seen any solutions or explanations.
Also having the same issue, but not on MacOS. Fresh install to an LXC container on Proxmox, have tried all the permutations. Tried priv and unpriv, also tried ubuntu and debian container templates. The one oddity I can note is that I can proceed through the initial setup, but when trying to add libraries Plex sees the top level folder but not any of the underlying folders on an NFS mount.
Hi everyone! I am hopping in to a bunch of the threads on this topic to let everyone know that we have a new thread with the latest information where we will be posting updates going forwards. Please check out that thread here: PMS v1.42.1 Core Component Error Workaround and Information
