my Plex server runs on a headless Raspberry Pi3B, i.e. no keyboard, mouse or display.
all is being done with SSH. and this goes very well.
in order to make sure downloaded TV-series and films are usable, I move them into the folder that is being watched by Plex. and Plex picks them up, retrieves meta-data, etc.etc.
when the TV-serie and/or film can be played, I move the out of the Plex-folder, because I want to keep things clean and tidy.
the problem now is, that Plex does not remove the TV-show or serie from the Plex-library.
updating the library does not help.
how can I clean up my library, without removing the Plex-folder ??

The following ‘may’ work depending on your storage and where/how it’s located - Plex misbehaves when doing automatic library functions on network shares and it’s basically down to a roll of the dice. Visit Plexweb/Settings/Server/Library/tick the box next to ‘Run a partial scan when changes are detected’. Also tick ‘Empty trash automatically after every scan’. Hope for the best.
Alternately you can set these functions in Scheduled Tasks if you can wait for the maintenance period to begin and end (what are the chances of that?) and it too is going to be a roll of the dice if network locations are being used and Plex decides to misbehave while dealing with them.
Totally unnecessary however - unless your OCD prevents doing anything else. Plex marks them as watched unless you mark them as unwatched. That’s about as tidy as reasonably expected and it prevents you from having to sit through another complete discovery and re-population if you or someone else in your immediate viewing arc happen to want to watch them again at some point.

the files as well as the OS are on the same external usb-hdd, connected to the Raspberry. so both the Plex-server and the files are on the same system and not on a share somewhere on my network.
the suggested settings were already in place.
the “missing” TV-series and films are and will remain marked as being watched.
so, now I’ll wait and see what happens

I absolutely warn you to use this option if your media files are on external or networked storage.
Just don’t.
