Cleaning up the data folder

My Plex data folder is currently about 8 GB and I was wondering if there are some items that could be removed.
For every movie there are several posters 5, 6 or more. Once I am satisfied with the current poster I would like to remove the others as I will not be needing them. Is it possible?

Many thanks!

Only if you want to create a bomb crater where your Plex install used to be.

8GB? When I looked last mine was 96GB and growing.
You can move the data directory, but if you don’t do this just right you’ll be starting over. At 8GB that’s no big deal, right?

Notes:

  1. Read carefully, do exactly.
  2. If you don’t have a Local Drive (one bolted in the box) that isn’t the OS drive, don’t even try it - it won’t work.
  3. Here’s where that file name and folder structure Compliance really comes in handy - Wanna move the path where app data is stored? Move it, let Plex rediscover everything and it’s over. Your files matched the first time (maybe a few stragglers) and they’ll match this time too.

I have my app data on my F: Drive (HDD) - there’s 987GB free on that drive so I feel pretty good about it for the next few weeks at least. (LOL)

My Plex data folder is on my E: drive - 512GB Samsung 950 SSD. That’s where my Calibre library also is.

I’m not worried about the size. Mostly about removing unused items. Items I know I’m not going to use.

The libraries: Movies, TV Shows, Music, etc. are on several WD/HGST 8TB, 10TB drives.

In Scheduled Tasks turn on everything:
Plexweb/Settings/Server/Scheduled Tasks/

Old bundles will be removed, Trash Emptied, Database Optimized, Libraries Analyzed, etc, etc, etc.
That’ll keep things as fit and trim as possible without fear of user triggered detonation.

You can do some clean-up from the library pane (hover over ‘Libraries’/click the dots) like Optimize the Database, Clean Bundles and Empty Trash.

I’ll try that.

Thanks!

You’ll probably find that doesn’t change the size of the data directory - Plex runs pretty clean in that area unless really neglected for really long periods of time.

Optimizing the Database is never a bad idea though. That’ll keep your stuff in tip-top shape for fast, reliable access and is also recommended if adding or removing large numbers of items and you don’t want to wait until scheduled maintenance. An Optimize operation should only take a few seconds (+/-).
