I need to clear the play history, similar to how you can clear the browsing history of Chrome, FireFox, etc. The only thing I found is to muck with a database… I am thinking there has to be an easy way especially in this day and age of preserving privacy!

Well, I found this at Reddit! But I really should not have to edit a SQL database to clear history! Can you imagine the outcry if Google refused to let you clear your chrome history? Especially in Europe! I am very surprised that no one on these forums seems to care about not being able to clear your history!

Play history is stored locally in your db and the best way to clear it out is using sql. Looking at the reddit post those steps look accurate as I’ve done this type of cleanup many times. Just make sure to take backups.
If your feeling a bit uneasy at the prospective of edits to your db then you can accomplish this also via the dash app. Just go to the history in the app and swipe left on a item and select remove. The major downside to this is that it only can be done 1 item at a time but if your not taking about remove much it might be an option for you.
BTW… as you mention privacy, do you have Sync Your Watch State and Ratings enabled ? If so then this data has been uploaded to the plex cloud and you can see a summary of it https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/profile. For me this is blank as I never enabled this feature.

Cool! Thanks for the tip about the dash app! I do not have Sync Your Watch State and Ratings. I wish they just had a web Browser style delete history! Like delete last hour, last day, etc. I will post a feature request in the request feature forum but with the push to monetize Plex viewer’s viewing habits, I doubt this will be considered, it had to be a conscience choice to not have this feature already enabled.
