Clicking on the Sign In button within the Plex Windows app doesn't do anything

I changed my password and had the website sign out all devices, then after I click on sign in within the Windows app it doesn’t do anything for several seconds and then says Plex is down for maintenance, but I don’t see any maintenance on status.plex.tv, it’s been several hours and I can access the server at 127.0.0.1 just fine. Interestingly, if I click on Your Media, it says Get Plex Media Server but that also doesn’t do anything after clicking on the button. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the app with no luck, any suggestions?

Windows or NAS server?

Are you on the same computer as the server?

Try that ip in an incognito browser.

If you’re on a different computer than the server use the ip of the machine where the server resides.
http://[server.local.ip.address]:32400/web

You need to claim the server. Depending on what system you’re on and how you’re accessing it will determine how difficult that may be.

Windows
Same computer
Works in an incognito browser
Works on a phone using Wi-Fi and a browser although it said, ‘This application is not hosted by Plex. continue only if you recognize this server and wish to grant access.’

First I claimed the server on my phone while the files are on a Windows computer, then I reset the password again, signed out connected devices and claimed the server on the Windows computer but there was no change. The Windows Desktop App Sign In button doesn’t do anything for several seconds, even after clicking it several times, and then says, “Plex is down for maintenance.”

Make certain that there are not several instances of this player running.
Best to reboot the computer beforehand.

Is it possible that the file plex.ini is write-protected?
You can find it in
C:\Users\<your_user_name>\AppData\Local\Plex

You can try and delete this file.
Afterwards, you will have to make all settings in the player again.

plex.ini file wasn’t write protected
Deleted the plex.ini file and reopened the app
Signed out of the browser player and rebooted
Uninstalled and reinstalled Plex for Windows 1.52.1.3195-a0c4d5e9
Same problem

Why? The Web app has nothing to do with the desktop app.
However, a logged-in web browser is used to sign in the desktop app.
In other words, if you want to easily sign in the desktop app, make sure that previously your web browser has been signed into your plex.tv user account.

Logged into plex.tv via Brave and Microsoft Edge successfully

Try Chrome or Firefox.

Tried Firefox

Are we actually talking about the Windows desktop player app
and not about re-signing your server into your account?

Yes, Plex for Windows 1.52.1.3195-a0c4d5e9, presuming re-signing a server successfully means logging in via a browser and playing local files since that was done successfully on multiple browsers and devices.

Do you see the Plex for Windows listed in the Authorized Devices section of the settings?

If so, I imagine the last log in date is pre-password reset?

Solution

The Plex for Windows app sign-in button is supposed to open a new browser tab. So, I tried changing my default browser to Edge and it worked.
