Password Reset, no way to sign back in

So I knew I should have left my password alone but decided to be a good guy and follow Plex’s request to change it. So now I’ve changed it but when I go to sign into the Plex app on my PC is redirects me to Firefox and presents me with a page that simply says ‘Plex’ and has no other functionality.

Luckily Edge Browser has let me sign in here, but it’s using my account nickname instead of my Gmail address. So I am confused.

Help!

If your server is on the same machine
http://127.0.0.1:32400/web

If that doesn’t work substitute what’s in the square brackets for the ip address of your server
http://[server.local.ip.address]:32400/web

You will need to claim the server once you get in

Thank you, JP7. I’ll tackle this tamale.

Okay, that server link thing worked to a point. I was on the brink of reclaiming the server and then something went wrong. I fear in the past I’ve had different servers and so I have different user names and passwords. I can’t determine which is the one I’ve been using for the past year or so.

So I still need help. If that wasn’t clear, let me put it this way.

  1. At one point I had a server.
  2. Something went wrong, abandoned it, generated a new server that I used successfully until this password breach.
  3. I don’t recall what username or server name I used and so it’s hard to reclaim it.

You don’t need to know what user you used with that server or how you had named it.
If you have access to the server, it’s running and it’s indeed unclaimed, you can access it locally and reclaim it. You could even assign it to a different Plex account that way.

As JaysPlex7 pointed out (with some amendments:

  1. make sure your server is running – I take it you know on what device the server is installed?
  2. browse to the server’s local IP address from within the same network/subnet
    • if you’re on the same machine… use http://127.0.0.1:32400/web
    • if you’re on a different machine in the same network… use http://[PMS IP address]:32400/web
  3. once the web app has loaded, open Settings > [Server Name] > General
  4. click the Sign In button at the center of that settings page (next to the “this server is unclaimed…” message)

If this is giving you any trouble we’ll need to know on what platform/OS you’re running that Plex Media Server of yours.

Thanks Tom, let me share more info while replying to questions.

If you have access to the server, it’s running and it’s indeed unclaimed

Yes, when I went to the server is on the same machine link and signed it, it immediately waved ‘unclaimed’ server over here. Before I followed that guide I noticed my setup was all there. When I then claimed the server, my set up (network?) vanished and I got a generic looking Plex.

I take it you know on what device the server is installed?

It’s on my desktop PC. C drive, program fils, Plex, Plex Media server.

I’m going to do instructions 2-4 and get back you momentarily.

UPDATE

Okay. This is where I’m getting stuck. I go to the same machine link, the web app loads, and you say open ‘settings’.

There are two choices in the web app.

  1. ‘Account Settings’ under my username, which brings me to Account and Personal Info with no server option.

  2. The ‘wrench’ entitled ‘settings’ brings me to Plex Web - General, again with no mention of servers.

In other words I can’t do this – open Settings > [Server Name] > General

There is no ‘this server is unclaimed message’ now

Okay, I’m narrowing down the issue.

If I sign in with Google, it doesn’t see the network. There’s no way to sign in since there is no network.

If I sign in with my username password, it sees the server. And I have signed into that. But if I then go home and try to find my network the way I had it set up, it’s not there. Generic page instead.

Okay, even closer. I found the network. It lists my stuff on the left hand column properly – but – if I click say ‘Movies’ or ‘TV Shows’ (that I have) nothing populates in the main window and I get a ‘something went wrong’ ‘unexpected error occured’

I think I solved it. Via a very strange way. I cleared the cache in my browser. It seems to be working now. I think it’s changed some posters but this is better than nada.

Consider this resolved unless I come back.
